Black Friday...it's all about to change

As much as it pains me to say it...I am not happy one bit about Black Friday this year.

A long standing tradition in my house.....
family Thanksgiving with all of the crazies, and as the gravy sits and forms a layer on the top, I lovingly engross myself in the newspaper of the day.

You know, the big, fat one, full of Black Friday ads.
The one that the mail carrier dreads delivering because of the new found bulk in her triceps early the next morning!
The ads full of bargains that no one really needs, but everyone MUST have because it is ONLY $3!!!

You know the ads that are so not cool.
Full of MAJOR price slashing...only to find that each store only had 4 of those $88 trampolines to begin with!

Yes...that's the day I love so much!!!

For years, Susie and I (and a few other friends thru the years) have a plan of attack.

After all of the littles are safe at home, full of turkey, and in the bed...we change into our warmest Christmas socks and we tip-toe out of the house, around 2am (the last year or two, it has been earlier year by year) and we head for the stores, and we are always amazed at the line that has already formed.

I don't know why it shocks us, when people are in their pajamas outside of Best Buy and it looks like they have been camping for weeks.
Their hair isn't washed.
Their remnants of fast-food shenanigans are everywhere.
Gross.
But, whatev.

So...this brings me to this year.
2013.
The year that stores (Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Toys R Us) have announced they will open at 6pm on THANKSGIVING DAY!

And so, I am sorry.
But I am breaking my own tradition, and I regret to force myself...but I will NOT be there when they open.

And quite honestly, I am shocked, in advance, at the number of people that will leave their families to go beat the doors down.

And, even more disappointed that all of these stores are making their employees leave THEIR families to go to work.
ON THANKSGIVING!

So sad about this.
And that this is where we are today.
In 2013.

So, I guess, in conclusion, my family will not get "doorbuster" gifts this year, instead, they will probably get something that I found one day while "browsing" on a standard business/shopping day.
And probably something much more meaningful.

But, as for me and my house...we will NOT shop on Thanksgiving.
